Friends of International Education

Resources for Students

The portion of the Friends of International Education web site will provide information about international programs for K-12 students. This listing is certainly not exhaustive, but it will provide a good starting point for students who are interested in international affairs.

Capitol Forum on America's Future

The Capitol Forum on America's Future is is a civic education initiative that engages high school students in discussion of current international issues. The program involves students both within their social studies classroom and beyond the classroom at their state capitol. The Capitol Forum is an annual program of Choices Education Program at the Watson Institute for International Studies, Brown University.

Model United Nations

The Model United Nations encourages students to step into the shoes of ambassadors from U.N. members states to debate current issues on the organization's vast agenda. Student "delegates" in Model U.N. prepare draft resolutions, plot strategy, negotiate with supporters and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the U.N.'s rules of procedures - all in the interest of mobilizing "international cooperation" to resolve problems that affect almost every country onEarth.

World Affairs Challenge

The World Affairs Challenge is an innovative academic competition in international relations. Teams of middle and high school students compete in three different events that test their analytical and presentation skills and their knowledge of world events. Developed by the Center for Teaching International Relations at the University of Denver, the World Affairs Challenge is now expanding across the country. Look for information regarding the WAC in Wisconsin.

World Affairs Seminar

The World Affairs Seminar at UW-Whitewater is a personalized educational program held during the second week of June each summer for selected high school students to learn about the customs, traditions, aspirations and heritage of people from around the globe through personal association with other young people from foreign countries.
